Engineer Goby
Engineer Goby, Pholidichthys leucotaenia, is another Goby that is a hardy, reef safe, easy-care, community aquarium choice. Also known as the Convict Goby, this fish undergoes a unique coloration tranformation throughout its life. The Engineer Goby at a younger age is mainly a sleek, black fish with a white horizontal stripe down its body. As it ages, its markings change to an almost leopard-like mottling black and white. Groupings of Engineer Gobies exist naturally in the wild, and tend to do better than individual specimens in the home aquarium. A sandy substrate, peaceful tankmates, and plenty of room are all important elements for successfully keeping the Engineer Goby. One of the larger Gobies, it can grow to lengths nearing 12 inches. It will accept a variety of foods including Brine Shrimp and bloodworms, and will typically accept flake food fairly easily.
