Emerald Wrasse
Emerald Wrasse, Novaculichthys macrolepidotus, is typically well-camouflaged in its natural surroundings, but is a definite stand-out in the home aquarium where color is concerned. Also known as the Seagrass Wrasse, its impressively deep green body color is highlighted with a black “eyelash” marking behind the eye. There are other black markings along its body, while it reflects sheens of blue, orange, pink, or red, depending on the specimen and lighting. Its sleek, svelte body shape is a stark contrast to another member of its family, the Dragon Wrasse. Growing to a maximum aquarium length of about five inches, it is still an active swimmer that requires ample swimming space. As with other members of the Wrasse family, its diet should be carnivorous including meaty frozen foods or Brine Shrimp. The Emerald Wrasse is not recommended for Reef aquariums because of its penchant for invertebrates.
Approximate Arrival Size for Emerald Wrasse: 1 to 2.5 in.
