Duckweed
Duckweed, Lemna minor, is a free-floating plant that is found around the globe. It has important roles in industrial pollution control as well as providing a means of exporting the nutrients absorbed as food or fertilizer. The small little plants will live under almost any water conditions presented to it. As the plant absorbs nutrients and light, it will undergo division to form a new plant. In the planted aquarium, Duckweed is an ideal way to export excess nutrients. Duckweed, if allowed to, can also provide shade for the life below. Excess Duckweed, and there will be some, can be used to feed herbivorous fish in other aquariums you might have.
