Duboisi Cichlid
The Duboisi Cichlid, Tropheus duboisi , is endemic to the African rift lake Tanganyika. Like other freshwater fish from the rift lakes, aquarium water should be buffered to a specific pH level. For Tanganyikan Cichlids this range is 7.4 to 9.4 and several products are available to handle this requirement. The breeding stock of this fish hails from the Mwela region. T. duboisi has a herbivorous diet primarliy made up of aufwuchs, which is a type of green algae. When spawning, females carry the young in their mouth. This fish will do best in a harem set up with one dominant male and several females. All captive raised cichlids offered by Pet Solutions are first generation offspring (F1) from wild caught stock. This allows us to offer the brightest colored cichlids available. The Duboisi Cichlids shipped at this size are a darker fish with lighter-colored spots. The adult coloration pictured will soon develop.
