Banded Sleeper Goby
Dragon Goby, Amblygobius phalaena, is a hardy, attractive, utilitarian member of the Goby family. One of the larger Gobies, it will sift sand through its gills, extracting organisms for nourishment. In addition, its carnivorous habits should be sated frequently with meaty foods such as Brine Shrimp, Blood Worms, or Black Worms. Dry and pellet foods might not be accepted, even after becoming accustomed to aquarium life. Also known as the Brownbarred Goby and the banded sleeper goby, its body is highlighted by alternating lighter and darker brown bands edged in a bright blue. Its head and front body area are adorned with striking blue spots and striped markings. If more than one is to be introduced to the same aquarium, plenty of space and Live Rock should be provided as the two may quarrel initially as territories are established. Like other members of the Goby family, this fish is a skilled leaper and requires a tightly covered aquarium. Toward other species, the Dragon Goby is basically peaceful and is, overall, a great inhabitant of the reef aquarium.
