Diamond Blue Discus
The Blue Diamond Discus, Symphysodon sp., has been selectively bred for its blue color. Overall, coloration of this particular Discus will vary depending on the mood and overall health of the fish. These Discuses are tank-raised originating in Malaysia. This Cichlid is strictly for the intermediate to advanced aquarist because of its’ feeding habits and water filtration requirements. Even though he is a peaceful fish and community aquarium safe he can become quite territorial during spawning and when breeding. To solve these two problems allow them to pair themselves, once paired, maintain a school of young Discus to form a well-defined nuclear family. As an adult the hardy Diamond Blue Discus will grow to 8” which means it should be kept in a larger tank (50 gallons). The temperature range for this Discus should be between 79-86°F. As a carnivore, it prefers freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, Discus pellet food, high-quality flake food, and meaty frozen foods.
