Dampiera Pseudochromis

Dampiera Pseudochromis, Labracinus cyclophthalmus, is one of the grander members of the Pseudochromis family – both in size and in stateliness. Also known as the Fire Tailed Devil or Spotty Sail Dottyback, this true carnivore feeds in the wild on small fishes and grows to a maximum of around nine inches. Typically not exceeding six inches in the home aquarium, Dampiera Pseudochromis is usually found in the passages between corals and crevices in Live Rock. Typically peaceful with other species that do not fit into its mouth, they may be somewhat assertive amongst their own species. This fish is a predator who bridges the genetic gap between two families of fish that are related: Pseudochromis and Groupers. The Dampiera is an opportunistic predator who will rest in the shadows, but will gladly make its presence known when presented with meaty foods containing squid, clams, shrimp, and chopped fish. Hardy, beautiful, and full of personality, this is a great fish for aquarists of all experience levels.

Approximate Arrival Size for Dampiera Pseudochromis: 2 to 4 in.
