Cobalt Blue Cichlid
Best known as the Cobalt Blue Cichlid, this fish is one of the many color morphs of Metriaclima zebra from Lake Malawi. The body is a pale blue color with the male usually having more “egg dummies” on the anal fin. Growing to about 5-6” in length, the Cobalt Blue is not as aggressive as some of its Mbuna cousins, but will hold its own with most fish that try to intimidate it. The Cobalt Blue will prefer to have lots of large rock formations with some open areas for spawning. The female will mouthbrood the eggs for 14-21 days before releasing the fry. Their diet should include mostly vegetable based foods, with occasional meaty treats. Best kept as one male with several females, avoid keeping with other predominantly blue Mbuna to avoid unnecessary aggression.
Approximate Arrival Size for Cobalt Blue: 1 to 2 in.
