The Clown Plecostomus was first described by Steindachner in 1882. The body can be an olive green/ brown with white/yellow striping, generally in an irregular or broken pattern. The tail is slightly forked and the dorsal fin is generally held against the body. The Clown Pleco is one of a few Plecostomus that may not get along with others of its kind, unless they happen to be a pair or there are multiple hiding places in the aquarium. Because of their size, the Clown Pleco is generally safe with live plants.
