Also known as the Siamese Algae Eater, they are usually quite peaceful and will seldom exceed 5 inches in the aquarium. Their sides are brown with a lighter shade on their belly. They also have a dark horizontal line that extends from snout to caudal base. This species has an under-slung mouth that forms a sucking disc. A vegetarian, the Chinese Algae Eater has a slit behind its gills that allows fresh water to be exhaled for breathing. It does an excellent job of cleaning algae. This fish will also feast on dried foods, a spinach leaf or even crushed lettuce if algae is not readily available in the aquarium.
