Its appearance greatly resembles its cousin, the Chimba Red. Like other freshwater fish from the rift lakes, aquarium water should be buffered to a specific pH level. For Tanganyikan Cichlids this range is 7.4 to 9.4 and several products are available to handle this requirement. The breeding stock of this fish hails from the Bemba region.. When spawning, females carry the young in their mouth. All captive raised cichlids offered by Pet Solutions are first generation offspring (F1) from wild caught stock.
