These heavy duty filters provide both mechanical and biological filtration. 1" diameter lift tubes move more water than other sponge filter and can be used with a powerhead or airstone. Raised sponge eliminates dead space under filter. Heavy base keeps sponge where you want it.

Amazingly easy to use product

Pros:
easy cleaning and long life, plus low price!
Cons:
takes up space.
I have used this as both a pre filter to a HOB as well as a a stand alone filter for a betta tank. I have thus far used the up to 20 model in a 20 gallon tank as a pre filter for a 30-60 gallon tetra HOB filter. it reduced the flow just as i wanted and kept the water crystal clear. In a 10 gallon tank have been using an up to 20 model which is a little tall unless you make some slight adjustments. I would suggest a pair of smaller ones for a smaller tank if your trying to hide it. I also suggest using them with a small air stone to improve the vacuum function with an air pump. also the larger the air pump the more water it will move. betta fish love these filters!

No more baby fish sucked up!

Pros:
Keeps baby fish from being sucked into pump
Cons:
These are great baby fish savers! Also keep debris from getting into your impeller, etc. You can use them alone or as a pre-filter.

Best Supplmental Filter

Durable, Easy To Clean, Quiet, Effective

These inexpensive filters are a good investment for any aquarist. Excellent bio-filtration. for best performance, add an extra line of air tubing at bottom end of bullseye for a more powerful vacuum.

use for small fish, shrimps and starting new aquariums

Pros:
great biological filter, easy to use
Cons:
might need frequent rinsing to avoid clogging
I've used 3 sizes of this product as supplementary filters to a power filter. They're valuable to start a new tank with, just take them out from your established tank and put in the new one.Use them for fish that need a gentle current like Bettas and baby fish. When you rinse out these sponges, use aquarium water (clorine in tap water kills beneficial bacteria.)

The pro version is the one you want.

Pros:
Cons:
So there's 2 versions of this sponge filter. There's a PRO version and a standard version. This is the standard version. Both versions are identical except for the sponge material. The PRO version has a significantly improved sponge.
