Climate controls via terrarium heaters or reptile bulbs is important to reptiles and amphibians because they are cold blooded. Not all reptiles require light, but they all require some sort of heat source. Under tank heaters are nearly always a good solution, and the ambient heat increase that a reptile heat lamp can create is excellent for animals which prefer to bask in the sun. Using the zone heating plan to heat a habitat is important, allowing a cool, unheated area and providing a gradient in temperature all the way up to a hot basking area.
