Sometimes referred to as a "monster" fish or a "tank buster", this fish at its adult size is nearly four feet long so it should not be kept in a tank less than 200 gallons. This fish produces an electric charge in the water to stun its prey, and at adult size this electric charge can be quite severe. Special care should be taken with this fish when it gets larger, as the electric charge it produces can injure the fish keeper if special measures are not taken in its handling. The electric catfish is nocturnal, and will spend most of its time during the day hiding among rocks and decorations in its aquarium.
This fish is illegal in the state of Florida
