It is very important to note that this fish is meant for brackish water and not for a freshwater aquarium. The Flounder is native to the Gulf of Mexico, and when kept in a home aquarium it must be kept with not only brackish water as already mentioned, but it also absolutely must have sand on the bottom of the aquarium and not gravel. These fish are born in freshwater, and during the course of their life they move closer and closer to salt water, so as the fish grows the salt level in the water must gradually be increased. This fish will eat earth worms, small live fish, and can often be trained to eat meaty frozen foods as long as they sink to the bottom.
