The Female Crown Tail Betta is a highly desireable fish among those who keep Bettas. The female of the Crown Tail Species has much better color than a standard female betta, which is typically brownish in color. The Betta is known as the Siamese Fighting Fish because two males, if placed together, will normally fight until one is damaged or dead. This activity is considered a sport in Thailand, one of its countries of origin. Naturally residing in rice paddies and small puddles, the Betta requires little water. Its labyrinth organ helps it to breathe surface air. Without access to the water's surface, the Betta will suffocate.
