Red Wendtii Crypt, Cryptocoryne wendtii v. 'red', is one of the many Crypts originating from the Asian island of Sri Lanka. The Cryptocorynes make an excellent mid-ground plant with a wide variety of colors and leaf shapes available. The Red Wendtii Crypt makes its mark with a striking red coloration. Crypts prefer neutral water and moderate lighting. In some circumstances, the leaves of a Crypt will die back when first introduced to the aquarium. New leaves will arrive shortly; this is just how the plant reacts to the stress of a new environment. Most Crypts can only be properly identified when the flower structure is present. The resulting seeds from flowering are one means of reproduction with the use of runners being the other propagation method commonly employed.
