HAS CHANGED MY WHOLE WAY OF BREEDING!

Pros:
Hygenic, easy to clean, hatch for viewing, roomy
Cons:
This is an update to my prior review. After 12 years of budgie breeding....these boxes have completely changed how I will breed in the future. I will never use wood boxes again. I won't "colony breed" anymore. These boxes could not attach to the bars in my outdoor aviary....so I set up some cages. I set them on the floor in 3 cages and attached one to the outside on 2 cages. Both ways worked well. I DON't RECOMMEND USING THESE BOXES IN A LARGE AVIARY. It is far to easy for a fledgling to get out of the box. My babies started coming out at 26 & 28 days. This is fine if they are coming out to a cage floor...they can run back to their box. Not good if the boxes are hanging 5 ft off the ground in a big aviay and they fall out and get hurt or can't find their way back home. These boxes have a nice concave and liners that slip right in. I scratched up the bottom of the liner, so it wasn't so slippery. After the chicks hatch out, I just put a piece of paper towel over the tray and toss in some shavings. It was amazing to see how quickly they soil their bedding......and even more amazing how easy it is to change it out. (I keep extra liners handy). On warm afternoons....I opened the hatch (on the ones inside the cage). The chicks liked hanging out at the open end. Dad liked how easy it was for him to feed them. It is easy for me to put my hand in and get them used to me. These boxes are soooo nice and roomy....both parents were in it much of the time. When the boxes were no longer needed...it took 2 minutes to wash them out. I enjoyed the freedom of colony breeding for 12 years....and didn't like the idea of having to have individual cages to deal with. But, for me, the hygenic benefits of these boxes...along with all of its other great features makes up for the extra "cage care". THESE BOXES ARE WONDERFUL.

Take a Peek and Not Upset Mama

Pros:
Easy to clean, Stands up to repeated use, Looks Great in the Cage, Watch the babies grow
Cons:
Takes up a lot of room, Cover slips off easily
I have 2 of these breeding boxes and have used them several times. The female bird goes into box without any hesitation. There is an built in area for the eggs and mama can easily sit on them. I really like it that I can lift the door and observe mama and the eggs/chicks without disturbing them. The entire top easily lifts off without disturbing the eggs to easily clean the unit. There are a few too many groves in the top that collect feces and junk, so it needs cleaning often, but it only takes a few minutes. Because the nesting box clips onto the side bars of the cage, it does not interfere with normal cage cleaning. This is a product that has lasted for over two years and I expect it to be able to use it for a long time to come because it is a high quality product.

SAFETY PRECAUTION

Pros:
Hygenic, reusable, easy to clean, roomy, nice concave
Cons:
Does not attach to all cages
This is my 2nd review. SAFETY PRECAUTION! I was concerned that a baby might possibly out fall out. It wasn't until I was assemblying the 4th box, that I realized the green hatch has to be put on in just the right manner. You'll know you have it right, when you can feel a tension and hear a snap when opening and closing the hatch. You may have to play with it a bit. ALSO....MAKE SURE TO SCRATCH UP THE PLASTIC LINER....as a slippery concage can cause splayed legs. I have not utilized my(7) boxes yet. I have concerns that these boxes could get to hot in an outdoor aviary during warm weather...but early spring breeding will, hopefully, not be a problem. They do not come with an extra liner (as previously advertised). PetSolutions honored their ad for me...and have since corrected it.

"Good Houskeeping"

Pros:
Easy to clean, easy viewing of chicks
Cons:
Didn't attach to any of my cages
I usually set out a dozen boxes at breeding time. Decided to give these a try. Bought some for one of the breeding areas. It could not be attached to any of my 4 cage styles. BUT...by using pieces from old cages, I was able to attach the box to them and then attach the extra piece to the breeding cages. I still worried it might come loose, so I glued a hook to the top of the box and tied the hook to the cage. As for the slipperyness of the plastic liners....use heavy sandpaper and really scratch them up good. Use nesting material too. They are nice and roomy. I have not used the boxes yet....but set one out in the aviary to see what the hens would do. They came right to it and were all excited over it. If these work well this spring, I will be ordering more. My complaints would be the poor design of the "hooks" and they should sell replacement perches (because I have a feeling these won't last too long). Pet Solutions had the best price, by far. Very quick delivery. They were supposed to include a spare dish. They didn't...but Pet Solutions sent me the missing dishes as soon as I called. REMIND THEM about the extra dish when you place your order.

My lovebirds love this

Pros:
Cons:
Perfect for my lovebirds. They took right to it, and have laid five eggs. It is easy to check on the eggs and momma. I mounted mine on the inside of the cage, as it did not fit well outside my cage.

Great Breeding Boxes

Pros:
Easy to clean, Affordable
Cons:
Door comes open, Doesn't fit all cages
These nest boxes are great and easy to clean. Pros: Easy to clean Low cost Last a long time Good size for buggies and lovebirds Cons: Does not fit all cages (I had to alter mine to fit my breeding flight cages) Door does not always stay closed There are a few spots on the inside that are hard to clean, but still easier than wooden next boxes. The liner also comes out which is nice and makes it very easy to clean the bedding. Just remember to always put bedding inside even if the liner has the little "egg cup" area, because baby bird's legs might not grow right.
