Metal Halide

Metal halide aquarium lighting is almost exclusively used on saltwater reef tanks or heavily planted freshwater live plant tanks. There is no need to use metal halide lighting on any other aquarium setup unless it is an extremely large and deep aquarium in the 800+ gallon range which needs the light penetration. Metal halide lighting does consume a great deal of power, and requires fans for active cooling, it also does add heat to the aquarium but for coral growth and amazing appearance there is currently no light that can match it.
