The new sleek design of the Hydor ETH External Thermal Aquarium Heater allows you to add a fish tank heater without anyone seeing it. This ingenious design attaches inline with your canister filter or return pump. With 5/8" input and outputs, this external thermal aquarium heater works with virtually all canister filters. No need to worry about broken coils, as the traditional metal resistor coils have been replaced by a special polymer sheet, silk-screened with heating ink. Temperature range of the Hydor ETH External Thermal Aquarium Heater is from 65F to 93F. 200 watt for 26-53 gallon aquariums, 300 watt for 53-80 gallon aquariums. Your fish tank heater should be between 3 to 5 watts per gallon of water.

Accurate, convenient, durable

Pros:
Not an eye-sore inside tank, cuts down on evaporation
Cons:
None
Over 5 years running, tank is locked at 77 degrees. Easy to adjust as its outside the tank, turn dial so slightly until desired temp. Not a lot of temp fluctuation and cuts down on evaporation. Standard heaters have hot zones in tank or sump. This thing doesn't fry water, doesn't get loose and float around. Favorite heater in my life of fish keeping.

Great product

Pros:
Gets heater out of tank
Cons:
need more options for tubeing size
Ive used the 300watt model now for over 4 years and have had no issues. I love the fact you get the heater out of the tank. It just gives it a more realistic look. Other benefits include the fact if you raise large cichlids like me, there is no way for them to break the heater. If you raise plecos there is no way for them to get burned. My only issue is that I wished they made the tubing size more adaptable. The 300 watt only comes as a 5/8". It would have been nice if it like some of the UV sterilizers and had more adaptability with different size hose adapters. Otherwise an awesome product!

Hydor Eth External

Pros:
I like the idea it's on the outside.
Cons:
I like the idea, it's on the outside, no more, putting your hand in the aquarium, to adjust the temp. It's been set at one temp and has stayed there!!!!!

Best heater around

Pros:
Good construction, Steady heat, very fast
Cons:
None
After my intank heaters kept going out on me I decided it was time for a change. I have 2 of these, 1 on a 55G and 1 on a 29G. You install the heater in the outflow of your canister filter. Set it and give it a day to make sure the temp is correct, change and give it another day. But once set to where you want it this product is amazing. I put a piece of clear tape around the temp knob to prevent it from moving. I also notice both of mine are about 2 degree warmer then where they are set on the knob. Still amazing product once it is diled in correctly.

FLAWLESS HEATER

Pros:
Effective, Easy to Use, Good Value, Safe, Durable, Very Accurate
Cons:
There is not much to say about this heater, FLAWLESS. I have been using the 200 watt External Hydor Heater for four years, now. The temperature of the water is as, dialed on the heater.

Pros:
Works very well.
Cons:
Lock nuts degrade over time.
I had bought this heater over 4 years ago an it still works with no temp descrepence. The lock nuts for hose attachment do degrade over time i'm useing a hose clamps on the ends witch are better than the lock nuts anyway. None the less i recomend this for sump or canister filter users.

Pros:
Has kept my 29 gallon planted tank at a steady 76 for over a year
Cons:
Dial is vulnerable to environment
I love this heater. The only problem I have ever had with it is my husband cleaning behind tank accidentally moved the dial and temp went to 92! I slowly lowered and everyone survived.
