This fish grows to be quite large, and when its size is combined with the territorially aggressive nature this fish requires a large tank at an adult size. An aquarium housing several of these fish should be stocked very lightly. The Buttikoferi is a river dwelling cichlid from the rivers of Africa, and as such it can adapt to a wide variety of foods. Primarily it should be offered vegetable type foods, with plenty of meaty foods added to supplement the diet for variety.
