Burmese Border Loach
Just identified in 2004, the Burmese Border Loach, Botia kubotai, is a peaceful, community aquarium addition that is functional and attractive. Also known as the Tatooed Loach, this fish does best in groups – either with its own species or with other similar Loaches such as the
Clown Loach. Active during the day and night, the lively cleaner is noted by the diversity of pattern with a mottling of lines, spots, and blotches in velvety brown and light tan. As a river Loach, the Burmese Border Loach does best in well-aerated water with good water flow. A number of decorations including driftwood will help it feel at home. While active, these fish are comical to watch as they chase and play with one another. When it comes time to rest, they are often seen hanging upside down under some décor or vertically between the glass and plants. This is typically not a sign of distress. This avid-eating omnivore will take any food designed for carnivores or omnivores. Special attention should be paid to ensure that ample food is falling to the aquarium floor to keep this active fish sated. A varied diet of Bloodworms, Tubifex Worms, and sinking pellet foods fed just prior to lights-out will help the Burmese Border Loach retain its best health.
Approximate arrival size for Burmese Border Loach: 1.5 to 3 inches
