Bolivian Ram Cichlid

Found in Bolivia, the Microgeophagus altispinosa is one of the dwarf cichlids, very similar in appearance/behavior to the German Ram. The Bolivian Ram as it is known, will grow to a larger size, up to 4 inches in length versus the German Ram. The males will have an extended first and second ray of the dorsal fin. Coloration is similar to the Blue Ram, with a little less blue highlights and not quite as red in the belly region. The belly is more of an orange/red color. The Altispinosa is best kept in pairs, with lots of plant/wood cover for seclusion. Natural conditions are soft water with a neutral to acidic pH value. While the Bolivian Ram will lay eggs on a smooth surface, there are reports of the parents using mouth-brooding on occasions of threat to the fry. A rather peaceful fish, this Ram can be kept with most Community fish and will accept most prepared aquarium foods. Not as common as the Blue Ram, the Bolivian Ram can offer an attractive choice for someone interested in these dwarf South American Cichlids.

Approximate arrival size for Bolivian Ram: .75-1"
