This attractive fish can have a captive lifespan of up to 10 years, and tends to be very hardy and easy to care for. It does tend to be on the aggressive side, but generally this is a territorial aggressiveness rather than just for the sake of being mean. Like most other cichlids, this fish likes to dig in the substrate and may rearrange light weight decorations in the aquarium if they can be uprooted. As an omnivore, feeding the Blue Acara is easy and they will eat most flake, pelleted, frozen, and small live foods with great vigor.
