Black Tetra
Black Tetra, Gymnocorymbus ternetzi, has been available to aquarium hobbyists since the 1930s when some were first imported form South America. Also know as the Black Skirt Tetra, it is recognized by the black fins and two black bars on the body. Silvery overall in coloration, it can grow to nearly three inches in the wild, but rarely exceeds 1.5 to 2 inches in the home aquarium. To prevent its propensity toward fin nipping, it is best kept in schools. Though water conditions are not critical, the Black Tetra does prefer cooler water than many tropical fish with water of around 70 degrees being optimal. It is known for being one of the easier Tetras to breed in captivity.
Approximate arrival size for Black Tetra: 1 to 2 inches
