The Black Tetra has been available to aquarium hobbyists since the 1930s when some were first imported form South America. Also know as the Black Skirt Tetra, it is recognized by the black fins and two black bars on the body. Silvery overall in coloration, it can grow to nearly three inches in the wild, but rarely exceeds 1.5 to 2 inches in the home aquarium.
