Black Convict Cichlid
Black Convict Cichlid, Cichlasoma Nigrofasciatum, is one of the more popular semi-aggressive South American Cichlids. Originating from the Upper Amazon Region, the coloration of the Black Convict Cichlid is most noted for its gray-purple body and black vertical stripes, with the striping being more prominent in younger specimens and fading as they age. Because of the natural variation in its endemic region, it is not particular about water, thriving just fine in neutral-to-hard water and temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees. The Black Convict Cichlid will do fine with dried food, but displays best colors with frequent feeding of frozen and live foods. Brine Shrimp, Black Worms, Tubifex, and Bloodworms are particular favorites. Live plants are typically beaten and uprooted, unless of the more durable variety. If they are to be introduced with the Black Convict Cichlid, plants of the Rough Stuff Live Plant Package are highly recommended.
