Banded Moray Eel
Banded Moray or Barred Moray Eel, Echidna polyzona, is an Indo-Pacific native with origins reachgin from the Red Sea to the Hawaiian Islands. Growing to approximately 2.5 feet in length, it requires plenty of room to grow and, given its size potential, should only be kept with other aggressive species of a size that will not fit into its mouth. In its natural habitat, it feeds day and night on crustaceans. This species may even learn to eat from the owner's hands (but be careful of the strong jaws.) In the home aquarium, it should readily accept meaty preparations. Like most Eels, Banded Morays are hearty eaters who also produce a great deal of waste. Because of this, a well-established aquarium and excellent water filtration is highly recommended. The distinctly vivid color of the bars may likely obscure with age as the colors mottle together somewhat. As with all Eels, an aquarium with a tight-fitting cover must be provided to prevent escape.
Approximate Arrival Size for Banded Moray: Small - 5" to 8", Medium - 9" to 12", Large - 13"+
