Australian Rainbow
Australian Rainbow, Melanotaenia nigrans, is an energetic fish that displays a great deal of diversity in coloration. Reflecting greens, yellows, blues, oranges, and reds, each fish will show differently in different lighting conditions as light reflects off the tips of the scales. A Northern Australia native, this fish is fair dinkum (Australian lingo for "just fine") in the community aquarium. Hardy and peaceful, this eager eater will accept dried, frozen, and live foods. It prefers a bit of salt added to the water and prefers cooler temperatures than many tropical fish - something around 70 degrees should be fine. This easy-breeder grows to a maximum size of around 4 inches, so it requires a good deal of swimming space.
Approximate arrival size for Australian Rainbow: 2 to 3 inches
