The Balloon Molly has an almost comical appearance with a large, rounded belly and stubby body it is often described as “cute” by those who have observed its behavior in the aquarium. This fish is an American native with its origin in the brackish waters of the Gulf of Mexico, East Coast Florida, and East Coast Carolinas. The Molly is found throughout the Southern U.S. in quiet pools, canal ways, and ponds. As a brackish water fish, it is always good to keep some aquarium salt in the water. This amount can vary between a teaspoon per five gallons to a teaspoon per gallon, depending on the preferences of the aquarium's other inhabitants. These fish are chosen from a tank with various colors and may be black, gold, silver or a mixture of colors chosen at random.
