Assasi Trigger
Assasi Trigger, Rhinecanthus assasi, commonly comes from the Red Sea and Indian Oceans. Also known as the Arabian Triggerfish, this fish is a member of the family Balistidae and was named by Forsskal, 1775. There are no distinguishing differences between males and females. Triggerfish are extremely hardy fish, therefore they are great for those who are just starting in the hobby, yet are just as intriguing and beautiful for the advanced aquarist. Members of the genus Rhinecanthus are not quite as aggressive as other Triggers, making them a great addition in a medium to large fish only aquarium. Multiple specimens may be kept together with caution. Best chances for success occur if specimens of the same family are introduced at the same size and are introduced simultaneously. Triggers are not the type of fish one would add to a reef tank, due to their diet preferences for invertebrates such as Crab and Snails. Assasi Triggers should be offered a variety of carnivore preparations as well as pieces of squid and krill, soaked in garlic or in a vitamin supplement. Carpet Anemones are generally safe from being picked on by this trigger.
Approximate Arrival Size for Assasi Trigger: Small: 1 to 2 in.; Medium: 2 to 4 in.; Large: 4 to 5 in.
