This fish was brought to the forefront of freshwater aquatic shrimp by the author and hobbyist Takashi Amano who wrote about the shrimp and featured them in his amazing planted aquarium books. Often called Amano Shrimp, these little invertebrates are more accurately called Japanese algae eating shrimp. They will eat algae as well as clean up leftover food in the aquarium. Like other freshwater shrimp, these are very small and may be eaten by larger carnivorous fish, so they should only be housed in an aquarium with peaceful residents.
