Albino Tiger Barb

This is a farm developed albino form of the Tiger Barb, Barbus tetrazona, original described by Bleeker in 1855. The Albino Tiger Barb is not found in nature, but has the same requirements and characteristics of its wild cousin from Indonesia, Sumatra and Borneo. Growing to a maximum size of 3 inches, this barb is a very active, schooling fish. Within the school it will establish a “pecking” order, so the more the merrier with this fish. They may bother other slow moving fish in the aquarium. The Albino Tiger Barb will prefer large areas for open swimming, but also requires some sheltered areas for hiding. As an omnivore, they will eat most all prepared aquarium foods. It is possible to get this barb to spawn in the aquarium. Several males will chase one female as she scatters eggs among the plants. Unfortunately several more fish will follow right behind eating the eggs. Occasionally, the males will have a red nose while the females will not. Generally a very hardy fish, the Albino Tiger Barb is somewhat susceptible to parasite infections.
